U21 Match Reports

Many thanks to Leighton who is our roving match reporter again this season.

Sunday 18th October v Florence FC, PJYL, at Forge Fields

Rangers were straight into their stride with Ali Chapman scoring early to put Brookfield ahead. Will May then scored an excellent volley to take the score to 2-0. Alex Kemp then made a weaving run on the right to put a medium height cross into the box. Robbie Prince controlled well and fired into the net for 3-0. Brookfield then switched off and let Florence back into the game conceding first from a corner before letting in 2 further goals to relinquish the lead (3-3) . Fortunately Rangers then regained their composure and a super ball out to Jack Morris saw him lift the ball just enough to clear the keeper and find the net (4-3). Josh Boulton then sealed the win with a strongly taken shot at close range to make the final score 5-3.

Scorers: Ali Chapman, Will May, Robbie Prince, Jack Morris, Josh Boulton.

Man of the Match: Alex Kemp & Alex Alton.

Sunday 11th October v Ball Haye Green, PJYL, at Forge Fields

Brookfield started well against the current league leaders. Jack Morris beat the full back on the right wing and fed a low cross in to Will May who finished well to put Rangers 1-0 up. The defence were just caught off guard by a quick break and the score was level at 1-1. In the second half the lack of subs and pace of the game began to tell with a long range shot beating Luke Wilson on the bounce (1-2). Another shot bobbled cruelly to evade Luke Wilson again and extend the opposition’s lead. Brookfield kept battling and were awarded a penalty for their efforts which Lewis Steele confidently put into the net. Final score 2-3

Scorers: Will May , Lewis Steele (pen)

Man of the Match: Will May

Sunday 27th September v Leek Town, PJYL, at Discovery Academy, Bentilee

Brookfield started very well passing the ball quickly and neatly to put Leek under pressure. A corner from Robbie Prince was well placed, Jack Morris’s shot was saved but not held and Chris Martin made no mistake (0-1). Minutes later some excellent combination play involving Josh Boulton and Nat Hughes resulted in a low cross to Chris Martin who again slotted into the net for his second of the game (0-2).

A sloppy start to the 2nd half saw Leek score goals in quick succession to snuff out Ranger’s lead. The rest of the game was even with Brookfield hitting form again late in the game. With 3 minutes to go some good pressure won Rangers a corner – Chris Martin floated it in and Ben Clark was positioned well to head into the net to give Brookfield their first points of the season: Final score 2-3.

Scorers: Chris Martin (2) Ben Clark

Man of the Match: Ben Clark

Sunday 20th September v Kidsgrove Athletic, PJYL, at Birchenwood Playing Fields, Kidsgrove

An early couple of goals from Kidsgrove again knocked Rangers confidence but they battled back into the game creating several chances which they just could not make count. Jack Morris and Ali Chapman came closest to netting. Brookfield again played some good football in the second half but a break and a 3rd goal from Kidsgrove made the final score 3-0.

Sunday 13th September v Bradwell FC, PJYL, at Forge Fields

Brookfield’s first game of the season saw Rangers start with a reasonable intent. A break from the right of midfield from Josh Boulton was followed by a low cross with Chris Martin being brought down in the box for a clear penalty decision. Robbie Prince slotted to the right of the keeper to open the scoring (1-0). The same combination of Josh Boulton & Chris Martin produced another accurate low cross for Ali Chapman to convert (2-0). Just before the break Bradwell were awarded a penalty and duly obliged to make the score 2-1

In the second half Brookfield looked tired and lacklustre with Bradwell equalising early on and then taking the lead. Unfortunately heads dropped and this coupled with tiredness setting in allowed the opposition to find the net another 3 times making the final score 2-6.

Scorers: Robbie Prince (pen) Ali Chapman
