Many thanks to Leighton for these fantastic match reports.
Sunday 11th May v Norton United (away), PJYL U17 Sub Cup Final at Norton United FC
A water-logged pitched following torrential rain awaited both teams in the Sub Cup final with the grass only just playable. Rangers got off to a good start with Kyle Woolrich intercepting in central defence and passing to Matt Boxer. A through-ball to Nathan Hughes moved onto to Robbie Prince whose shot went just over the bar. Norton crossed into the edge of the box which was well controlled and hit on the volley looping into the net over Lewis Steele’s head putting Brookfield behind (1-0)
                            2nd Half
Brookfield unlucky to be one goal down again started well. A cross from Chris Martin found the head of Ryan Forrester who nodded just wide left. A Norton chance resulted in them hitting the bar, then a break for Rangers involving Ali Chapman and Scott Bentley ended in a dangerous cross into the Norton box which Ryan Forrester couldn’t quite get a foot to. More end to end action followed with Lewis Steele making a crucial save from short range. Late in the game the ball was picked up by Lewis Jones in central defence and moved out left to Tom Dale – an excellent run beating the full back allowed a low cross into Scott Bentley who made no mistake to level the score at 1-1.
                            Extra Time
Brookfield had their tails up until a deflected shot found the top of the net to hand the lead back to Norton (2-1). With only 15 minutes of extra time left the decision was made to gamble and Rangers moved to 3 defenders with an extra striker. Brookfield remained on top as Ali Chapman set Scott Bentley on his way with a shot floating just over the bar. Norton won a corner which was not cleared and the ball found the net to extend their lead. A late break from Norton was well-finished with a shot finding the bottom left corner of the net.
The final score of 4-1 did not reflect the closeness of the game. Rangers put up an excellent fight to top-off a gradual improvement in form and results since Christmas. 4th in the league and a cup final appearance finished a strong season for Brookfield in what was only their first year in the highest division of the Potteries Youth League.
                            Scorers: Scott Bentley
Man of the Match: Not awarded.

Thursday 1st May v Madeley White Star (home), PJYL U17 Sub Cup Semi Final at Sir William Stanier
Brookfield started tentatively with Madeley winning most of the 50:50 balls – particularly the aerial ones. The opposition got the break-through midway through the half with a corner headed in at the near post (0-1). Rangers seemed to wake up and were much more competitive after going a goal down.
                            2nd Half
Brookfield came out fighting for the 2nd half and it wasn’t long before they won a corner. Matty Boxer struck low and hard  - Lewis Jones was well placed to side-foot the ball into the net to level the score at 1-1. Rangers looked dangerous at set pieces with Lewis Jones heading wide from another corner. Constant pressure and a very neat passing move set Ali Chapman on a run when he was fouled just outside the box. Robbie Prince drilled low into the box and during the goal-mouth scramble Scott Bentley made sure the ball went over the line (2-1). Even exchanges followed with both defences coming under pressure. Brookfield again pushed forward winning a corner. Matty Boxer placed the ball well into the box and a Madeley defender steered the ball into the net for an own goal (3-1). The last 15 minutes were tense with Madeley pressing hard. A diagonal cross into the Rangers box was knocked in to make the score 3-2. Brookfield held on to the final whistle to secure a place in the Cup final on 11th May
Scorers: Lewis Jones, Scott Bentley + Madeley OG

Sunday 27th April v Norton United (home) at Sir William Stanier
Norton currently top of the league were quick to put pressure on Rangers with an early strong shot well parried by Lewis Steele but the ball fell to a Norton player who tucked it into the net (0-1). Kyle Woolrich struck a good free kick into Scott Bentley who found the net but the referee disallowed for an infringement. Norton won a free kick just outside the box and a strong well-placed shot found the net (0-2). Norton won a corner and some poor marking left a Norton player free to head in (0-3). Brookfield then put a good passing move together involving Jack Morris & Robbie Prince resulting in a shot by Ali Chapman that hit the bar. A long goal kick was allowed to bounce and Norton again were in on goal to extend their lead (0-4). The half finished with another good save from Lewis Steele and a good move by Rangers in midfield giving Ryan Forrester a chance on goal which got deflected.
                            2nd Half
Brookfield started much brighter with an excellent one-two move with Tom Dale crossing low into Ali Chapman who slotted home to open Brookfield’s account (1-4). Lewis Steele made another excellent save but it was another set piece (corner) that led to another Norton goal (1-5). The best move of the game came again down the left side with Chris Martin passing out to Tom Dale who again crossed low finding Ali Chapman for the second time and the ball was again slotted in (2-5). The second half was very even with Rangers looking threatening but a long shot on goal found the corner of the net to make the final score 6-2 to Norton.
                            Scorers: Alistair Chapman (2)
Man of the Match: Kyle Woolrich

Sunday 6th April v Meir KA (home) at Sir William Stanier
The first 20 minutes were tight with some even exchanges and Rangers putting some good passing moves together. One such attack end with Scott Bentley being brought down in the left corner of the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Robbie Prince stepped up and coolly stroked the ball to the right of the Meir keeper to convert the penalty kick (1-0). Late in the half, Meir put together a move down the right flank, the ball was crossed and poked home at close range to level the score.
                            2nd Half
Again Brookfield competed well against a strong Meir team with more pressure resulting in a cross from Chris Martin which Ali Chapman took on the volley and shook the bar with a powerful shot. Minutes after Meir hit the bar with a header from a free kick. Meir picked up the ball in midfield and found enough space for a shot – it was struck sweetly and hit the top right corner of the net (1-2). This knocked Rangers confidence a little and they had a period of uncertain play. Meir scored from a crossed ball with another header but it was judged off-side. The opposition won a corner and a floated ball caught the wind and nestled in the left corner to extend Meir’s lead (1-3). An uncharacteristic defensive error lead to the final goal of the match with the ball not being cleared allowing another well placed goal (1-4). Brookfield re-gained their confidence and touch and nearly pulled a goal back with Ali Chapman being denied a goal by a goal-line clearance
All in all a strong performance against tough opposition and a score-line that slightly flattered the visitors.
                            Scorer: Robbie Prince (Pen)
                            Man of the Match:

Sunday 23rd March v Hem Heath (home) at Sir William Stanier
Rangers kicked off with some crisp passing football and soon won a corner. Chris Martin took the kick and found Lewis Jones continued his goal scoring run by heading in for Brookfield to take an early lead (1-0). Brookfield relaxed a little too much and Hem Heath hit the post with a well worked attack – this was a wake-up call for Rangers.
                            2nd Half
Hem Heath started strongly forcing an excellent save from Lewis Steele from a 30 yard lobbed shot. Lewis Jones and a Hem Heath player went in for a crunching tackle and the opposition player was judged to have gone in with two feet. The referee showed a red card and Hem Heath were down to ten players. Brookfield started to dominate and a corner was won. Alex Alton took the kick and a goal-mouth scramble ensued. The initial shot was blocked but Ali Chapman was in the right place to tuck the rebound into the net (2-0). Lewis Jones intercepted a ball in midfield and passed to Robbie Prince who played an early neat through ball to Ali Chapman who showed his pace and accuracy to extend Rangers lead to 3-0. Matty Boxer took a well-earned corner kick which was not cleared and again Ali Chapman slotted in (4-0). More pressure from Brookfield resulted in a corner and again Matty Boxer found Lewis Jones for his second headed goal of the game. The final goal of the game came from a break in midfield – Matty Boxer crossed the ball into Robbie Prince at pace. Robbie was able to get power on the header which the keeper could only partially block, the ball found the net making the final result 6-0.
A good performance from Rangers that should give them confidence going into the last few games of the season.
Scorers: Lewis Jones (2), Alistair Chapman (2) Chris Martin, Robbie Prince.
Man of the Match: Nathan Hughes

Sunday 16th March v Leek Town Predators (home) at Sir William Stanier
The game started with a good period of possession for Brookfield creating several attacking chances mainly down the right flank. Chris Martin put in a dangerous cross which the Leek defender put onto his own post. Play then evened out with chances falling to both teams, the best of which was a well struck shot from Scott Bentley which hit the bar.
                            2nd Half
Rangers again dominated early possession resulting in a move again down the right around 10 minutes into the second half. This won Brookfield a corner kick. With a strong wind in his favour Matty Boxer floated the corner in tucking the ball directly into the top far corner of the net to open the scoring. A few minutes later and Rangers won another corner. Again Matty Boxer floated a well-placed ball in and Lewis Jones nodded in. Unfortunately the goal didn’t stand as the referee spotted an infringement in the box. Further chances fell to Ali Chapman and Scott Bentley and Lewis Jones (free-kick) but all were just off target.
The last 10 minutes was also eventful with a goal mouth scramble in Leek’s box and then a goal line clearance to preserve Brookfield’s lead from Kyle Woolrich. A competitive match which Rangers deserved to win on balance.
                            Scorer: Matty Boxer
Man of the Match: Robbie Prince

Sunday 9th March v Madeley White Star (home) at Sir William Stanier
Rangers started well having the majority of the possession during the opening 20 minutes with one quick-passing move resulting in a shot on goal being the highlight. Both teams created chances during the rest of the half. Alistair Chapman fired just over the bar from a free kick and Lewis Steels produced several key saves to keep the score 0-0. The deadlock was broken when a shot blocked by Ryan Forrester was judged to be a deliberate hand ball. Unfortunately Ryan was given a red card and Madeley scored the penalty (0-1)
                            2nd Half
With Brookfield down to 10 players they were going to have to work hard to salvage points from this encounter. Rangers set about doing just that and set up several chances. Tom Dale was denied a goal by a good save from the Madeley keeper and Scott Bentley was brought down in the box en-route to goal but nothing was given. Lewis Steele stayed on top of his game and made 3 excellent saves to stop White Star from extending their lead. An excellent passing move finishing with a one-two between Tom Dale and Scott Bentley allowed Tom Dale to fire home to level the score at 1-1. Brookfield could have taken the lead when the Madeley keeper was dis-possessed near the corner flag - the cross was a fraction high for Scott Bentley to nod in.
Rangers showed good character to battle for the draw and with several excellent performances from players including a solid performance from Kyle Woolrich in central defence.
                            Scorer: Thomas Dale
Man of the Match: Kyle Woolrich

Sunday 2nd March v Cotes Heath (away) at Nelson Hall Football Pitches, Stafford
Brookfield started their first match of 2014 after a 10 week break due to water logged pitches so this was a chance to re-ignite their season and give new signings Kyle Woolrich, Nathan Hughes & Alex Alton a run out. Rangers started brightly and played some intelligent passing football but some confusion at the back between Jack Morris and keeper Lewis Steele gave the opposition an easy lead (1-0). Brookfield regained concentration and won a free kick around 25 yards out. Robbie Prince floated an accurate ball into the box and Scott Bentley guided it in to level the score (1-1).
                            2nd Half
Rangers again started confidently and were quickly into their stride. A Brookfield corner was defended but the clearance fell to Robbie Prince who crossed for Lewis Jones to head into the back of the net (1-2). Rangers then extended their lead with a well-weighted through ball to Ali Chapman whose pace and strength held off the Cotes Heath defence to allow him to put in a powerful shot which beat the keeper (1-3). There was a period of even play. Brookfield completed the victory with a corner from Matt Boxer finding Lewis Jones who again put a well-placed headed ball into the net. Final score 1-4.
A good start to 2014 with Kyle, Nathan & Alex all fitting into the team well
Scorers: Scott Bentley, Alistair Chapman, Lewis Jones (2)

Sunday 15th December v Leek Town Predators (away) PJYL Div 1 at Westwood College, Leek
The game started with even exchanges until Josh Forrester put a free-kick at absolutely the right height so the ball tucked under the bar to open the scoring and give Rangers an early lead (0-1). Within 10 minutes the referee gave a controversial penalty for an alleged push in the box – Leek made it 1-1. The referee then awarded another penalty - this time to Brookfield for a foul in the box. Robbie Prince made no mistake in putting Rangers back into the lead (1-2). Late in the half good chances fell for both Ali Chapman and Kieran Wright but neither were able to convert.
                            2nd Half
Some poor defending led to a cross in from the right and Leek knocked-in at close range to level the score once again (2-2). Again a Leek attack was not dealt with and a glancing header into the net saw Leek take the lead for the first time in the game (3-2). Some excellent defending from Tom Jones at Centre-Half resulted in a goal saving tackle and the score staying the same. Rangers again went on the attack with Josh Forrester firing in a ‘trade-mark’ long-throw. Tom Dale controlled the ball and passed to Lewis Jones – the shot was good and although the Leek keeper saved he could not hold the ball and Chris Martin was well positioned to tuck the ball into the net (3-3).  The final goal of the game came few minutes for the final whistle  - once again the defence was left wanting as Leek drove through the centre passing out right before scoring the winning goal (4-3)
So an even game with Brookfield unlucky not to come away with at least a point – let’s hope 2014 brings a little more luck!

Sunday 8th December v Silverdale Athletic (away) PJYL Div 1 at Jollies Field, Silverdale
Around 10 minutes into the game, pressure led to Lewis Steele having to make the first of several excellent saves. The second save was a punch away whilst stretching. Ranger’s first chance of the games came with Tom Jones crossing the ball and Ali Chapman heading just wide right. Lewis Steele made another effective save blocking at close range.
                            2nd Half
Good pressure from Brookfield through the centre and a well-weighted through-ball from Ali Chapman put Kieran Wright clean in on goal taking the ball around the keeper and slotting in to give Rangers the lead (0-1). The equaliser followed shortly with Silverdale nodding in from a corner kick. (1-1). Lewis Steele stopped Silverdale from taking a lead with another fine save. Good play down the left flank from Silverdale led to a quick break and an early shot that just beat our keeper. (2-1). Lewis Steele again pulled off 2 good saves - the first from open play and the second from a corner to keep Rangers in the game. A strong run down the left from a Silverdale player resulted in a cross which was headed in (3-1). Rangers kept battling and defending well with a good performance at centre back from Tom Jones and some strong tackles from Jordan Glynn. A free kick taken by Robbie Prince was headed on by Tom Jones again to put Kieran Wright through who finished neatly lobbing the keeper to make the final score 3-2.
No points but a much better performance from Brookfield who were looking much like their form from earlier in the season.
                            Scorers: Kieran Wright (2)
Man of the Match; Lewis Steele

Sunday 1st December v Cheadle Town (home) PJYL Div 1 at Sir William Stanier
The first half was an even and well-played game of football with Brookfield looking more like the team they started the season as. Some good pressure through the centre resulted in a left-footed volley from Tom Dale which forced a good save from the Cheadle keeper. 3 excellent saves from Lewis Steele – the first from a strong low shot and the following 2 from free kicks kept the score at 0-0 as the ref blew for half time.
                            2nd Half
Again good pressure from Rangers and some good build-up play created the break-through with Chris Martin shooting into the bottom right corner with a strong left-footed shot (1-0). Cheadle equalised almost immediately with a lapse in concentration from the defence allowing a headed goal from a cross. (1-1). Josh Forrester hurled in a long throw from deep in the Cheadle half – Scott Bentley was positioned well to neatly back-heel into the net (2-1). Cheadle pressurised down the right and the lobbed shot was just high enough to beat Lewis Steele (2-2). Cheadle then took the lead for the match as a well struck free kick found the net from a glancing header (2-3). Only a last minute penalty rescued a point for Brookfield – Robbie Prince sending the keeper the wrong way to level the final score at 3-3
Scorers: Josh Forrester, Scott Bentley, Robbie Prince (Pen)

Sunday 24th November v Madeley White Star (home), PJYL League Cup 1st round at Sir William Stanier
This match did not start well for Rangers as they conceded 2 goals from corner kicks early on to go 0-2 down. Madeley extended their lead further with a well worked goal down the right of the pitch (0-3). Josh Forrester pulled one back with a very well taken free kick which found the top corner of the net (1-3). A further blow came in the form of a penalty awarded to Madeley - which was slotted in. (1-4)
                            2nd Half
Brookfield looked much brighter in the 2nd half – an excellent pass from a run on the right from Jack Morris in to Scott Bentley was immediately returned from Jack Morris to fire in to make the score 2-4. Rangers looked back in it until the defence was beaten down the right and a low cross was converted by Madeley (2-5). Lewis Steele suffered a blow to the head and had to be substituted with Tom Dale picking up the keeper’s gloves. The final blow came from a well worked move on the left which was put in at the near post. Tom Dale did pull off a good save late in the game to keep the final score to 2-6

Sunday 17th November v Alex Soccer Centre (away), Crewe & District FA Cup, 2nd Round at Legends, Crewe
Rangers started brightly on a soft pitch with an excellent ball into the box from Tom Dale allowing Chris Martin to finish with a strong shot (1-0). This was following by an excellent short range block by Lewis Steele to maintain the lead. A long range shot from Soccer Centre just crept under the bar to level the score to level the score (1-1). A cross from Soccer Centre was not defended well and a headed ball found the net (2-1). Another very good save by Lewis Steele followed as he blocked at almost point blank range.
                            2nd Half
A good run from ASC early in the half ended in a cross which was slotted in (3-1). Lewis Steele again kept Rangers in the game with an strong save from a corner ball. ASC broke from midfield and a missed tackle gave them another shooting chance which they took (4-1). Another great save from Lewis Steele this time with his feet. ASC broke from the right and crossed low into the box which once again was converted (5-1). A long ball over the top of Brookfield’s defence was allowed to bounce leaving a headed opportunity and another goal (6-1). ASC went further ahead with a corner which again was headed in (7-1). Rangers heads had gone down by now and they conceded a final goal after some consistent pressure to the make the final score 8-1.
After a very good first half performance against a strong team the final score line seemed harsh on Brookfield
                            Scorer: Chris Martin
Man of the Match; Lewis Steele

Sunday 27th October v Silverdale Athletic (home) at Sir William Stanier, PJYL Div 1
In windy and rainy conditions, Rangers started strongly with 3 clear chances in the first few minutes – unfortunately none were converted. Some lack-lustre defending gave Silverdale a gifted early opener (0-1). The second goal was an attempted cross by the opposition which the wind blew into the net (0-2).
                            2nd Half
Silverdale moved further ahead with a high ball over the defence which was slotted in (0-3). Josh Forrester had a 35 yard shot palmed onto the bar. The 4th goal resulted from a cross that was not dealt with, the opposition then scrambling the ball over the line. Silverdale then scored their best goal of the game with a good period of pressure in midfield and a stonking shot that Lewis Steele was just unable to stop. The final goal of the game again went to the opposition following a great save from Lewis Steele, however the ball was not cleared properly and again a forward player slotted home. Final score 0-6
This was probably Brookfield’s weakest performance for a couple of seasons so they will be looking to bounce back in the cup in 2 weeks time.
Man of the Match: Not awarded.

Sunday 20th October v Norton United (away) at Norton United FC, Smallthorne, Stoke on Trent, PJYL Div 1
The game started with end to end action and attacking chances for both sides. Lewis Steele pulled off an excellent save early on but a further wave of Norton pressure was not dealt with. The result was a scuffed shot that trickled over the line (1-0). Again Rangers did not deal with a Norton attack and although the opposition player looked off –side, the goal was given (2-0).
                            2nd Half
Again Norton pressed and a free-kick was well struck and well saved by Lewis Steele as he tipped the ball onto the bar. Further pressure through the centre of midfield led to a good shot from the home team and although Lewis Steele got a hand to it, the shot was too powerful and found the net (3-0). A spell of good passing football from Brookfield set up a chance for Ali Chapman who took his chance well chipping the keeper to restore some Rangers pride. Late in the game Norton caught Rangers on the break with a well-placed chip over the defence and a well-taken shot to make the final score 4-1
A tough test for Brookfield on a small pitch. Rangers will be looking to even the score when Norton visit Coronation Street later in the season.

Sunday 6th October v Madeley White Star (away) at Manor Road, Madeley, PJYL Div 1
Rangers started confidently with good pressure through the left of midfield leading to a corner. Matty Boxer guided the ball to the near post and Tom Dale slotted home to open Brookfield’s account (0-1).
A poor clearance from defence then allowed Madeley to equalise from a tight angle and level the score (1-1).
A good ball inside from Ryan Forrester to Chris Martin enabled a well-crafted pass to Kieran Wright who then produced a cross at just the right height for Tom Dale to push Rangers back into the lead with a diving header (1-2). Another good move starting with a Chris Martin pass to Scott Bentley who chipped the ball over the Madeley defence for Tom Dale to fire into the net for his hat-trick (1-3)
                            2nd Half
Madeley came out strong and dominated the first 15 minutes of the half forcing an excellent save from Lewis Steele. Brookfield had just dropped off the pace and didn’t deal with pressure allowing a good strike to beat defence and keeper to put Madeley back in the game (2-3). The rest of the game was reasonably even however one last attack from Madeley saw their striker guide the ball past Lewis Steele at close range to level to score at 3-3.
Rangers deserved the 3 points but were unable to protect their lead from a plucky Madeley side.
                            Scorers: Tom Dale (3)

Sunday 29th September v High Lane (away) at Disley Amalgamated Sports Club, Disley, Stockport, Cheshire Youth Cup 2nd Round
Brookfield were under pressure right from the off with our keeper Lewis Steele making 4 exceptional saves in the open exchanges pushing the ball around the post, blocking at close range to keep Rangers in the game. Thomas Jones was on the end of a very heavy tackle and was taken to hospital. The opposition did pierce the defence when a High Lane player was allowed to skirt across the box unchallenged to put the ball into the top left hand corner of the net (1-0). Not long after that a long range shot from midfield was just the right angle to nestle under the bar (2-0). Rangers were out of luck as another very similar long range effort again found the net (3-0).
                            2nd Half
Brookfield looked much more ‘up for it’ in the second half. A long throw from Josh Forrester was fired in at close range by Tom Dale to put Rangers back in the game. (3-1).The defence had to dig deep again and another fine save from Lewis Steele put the ball out for an opposition corner. The cross was good and a High Lane player nodded in to make the task much tougher at 4-1. Brookfield kept battling and created several chances. Ali Chapman put in a strong shot that was palmed onto the bar by the High Lane keeper – as it bounced back into play Tom Dale was there to head into the net to make the final score 4-2
Rangers can now concentrate on league fixtures and local cups.
                            Scorers: Tom Dale (2)

Sunday 22nd September v Hem Heath (away) at Wellbeing Park, Stone, PJYL Div 1
Brookfield started well looking sharp on an even and well-kept pitch. An early break from Chris Martin through the right of midfield enabled a accurate pass into the centre to Scott Bentley who struck well to beat the Hem Heath keeper on the left hand side of the goal (0-1). Rangers then relaxed too much and were themselves caught by a Hem Heath attack – a strong shot beat Lewis Steele and level the score almost immediately (1-1).
A period of even play resulted in a throw in to Brookfield. A ‘trade-mark’ long throw from Josh Forrester found Ali Chapman who controlled neatly and fired in to give Rangers the lead once again (1-2). The rest of the half was pretty even with chances falling to both teams – the opposition forced a top-drawer save from Lewis Steele.
                            2nd Half
Brookfield started lethargically and were soon caught off-guard by a Hem Heath break from the left with the opposition forward finishing effectively with a very strong shot to level the score at 2-2. The defining move of the match started with Ryan Forrester wining the ball in midfield and moving the ball to Chris Martin. An excellent pass out to Tom Dale on the left enabled him to put a run together and finish with an accurate low cross to Ali Chapman who fired home to regain the lead for Rangers (2-3). The match looked to be settled but Hem Heath kept battling and broke from midfield. Only a decisive tackle from Josh Forrester kept Brookfield’s lead intact.
A third win for Rangers has given them a strong start to the season. October fixtures look tough so early points will help.
Scorers: Scott Bentley, Alistair Chapman (2)

Sunday 15th September v Cotes Heath (home) at Sir William Stanier, PJYL Div 1
Brookfield started confidently putting together some neat passing play in midfield with only the occasional poor moves that left them vulnerable at the back. The break-through came very early in the game with a cross from the left flank from Tom Jones – finished with a well-directed header from Scott Bentley which hit the inside of the right post before hitting the net (1-0). A second goal again came from play on the left with Tom Dale putting a ball into Ali Chapman who caught a half volley – lobbing the keeper (2-0)
                            2nd Half
Again Rangers played some good football with pressure once again from the left allowing Josh Forrester to put a well-weighted ball through to Kieran Wright who beat a defender and the keeper to add to Brookfield’s tally (3-0). Robbie Prince picked up the ball just outside the box to fire a well-struck shot which the keeper had to palm over the bar. Good play on the right led to a powerful shot from Chris Martin - the Cotes Heath keeper could not hold it and Scott Bentley tapped in to score a true ‘poachers’ goal. The final goal of the game from a poorly judged back-pass by the opposition defence - Kieran Wright used his turn of speed to intercept, take around the keeper and slot in to make the final score 5-0.
Another clean sheet and another 3 points for Brookfield in their second game of the season in Division 1

Sunday 8th September v Cheadle Town (away) at Thorley Drive, Cheadle, PJYL Div 1
So the start of a new season is with us again. Brookfield Rangers 2013-14 campaign in Division one started with a trip to Cheadle Town for an away fixture. Cheadle started confidently with Rangers struggling to find their range and tempo but with 15 minutes gone Brookfield started to put some good play together. Pressure through the left wing forced a corner – Matt Boxer placed a floated high ball into the box which wasn’t cleared – Scott Bentley was there to score on his league debut for Rangers (0-1). Further pressure on the left gave Alistair Chapman the chance to surge ahead and drive a low shot – the Cheadle defence tried to block but the shot was too powerful to stop (0-2). Cheadle enjoyed a good spell competing well in midfield winning a corner. A headed shot forced an excellent save from Lewis Steele. Josh Forrester hit the right hand post from a free-kick and at the other end Thomas Jones made a very well timed tackle to snuff out another Cheadle attacking move.
                            2nd Half
Again Cheadle started confidently and the few early exchanges in the half were even before an excellent move from Rangers started with Scott Bentley picking up the ball just left of the box and passing accurately to Ryan Forrester who then threaded the ball through to Robbie Prince who calmly beat a defender and slotted home for Rangers 3rd goal (0-3). A long ball from deep in Brookfield’s half had just the right weight to beat the Cheadle defence and fall to Scott Bentley who placed well for second of the game (0-4). The goal of the game came with some crisp midfield passing from Rangers - Robbie Prince spotting the Cheadle keeper out of position and firing a long low shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net (0-5). Further action ensued at both ends with Lewis Steele saving well on several occasions and further chances falling to Alistair Chapman and Scott Bentley forcing some good defending from the home team. Pressure on the right of midfield from Rangers left Matt Boxer the time for a well-placed cross into Scott Bentley form him to round up his hat-trick and give Brookfield a 0-6 win to start the league season.
A great start to the league fixtures with a solid away win - Rangers will have to hold this form against stronger opposition in later games
