Sunday 16th May v Alsager Town (home) at King George Playing Fields

Another season drew to a close as we played our final match against Alsager, the boys going out on a high note with a good performance against a strong side. The match was end to end for the first 15 minutes but then Tom G put us 1-0 up and shortly after Dom netted to make it 2-0 which was the score at half time. Shortly into the second half Dom put us 3-0 up to make the game comfortable and he completed his hat-trick as the match drew to a close. There was still time for Ally to score though and make the final score 5-0. Dom was named man of the match after his brilliant hat-trick which also meant he pipped Ally to the title of our leading goalscorer this season.

Sunday 9th May v Wistaston Cougars (home) at Mirrion Street

After yesterday’s convincing victory expectations were high of another good result but the match never quite got going, perhaps the boys were worn out after their efforts the previous day. Dean opened the scoring after five minutes and then added a second shortly after before Nathan scored his second goal in two games immediately after Dean’s goal. Dean completed his hat-trick just a short time after and Tom D sent us into a 5-0 lead at half time. After the break the boys had several chances but lacked a cutting edge and even managed to have a penalty saved leaving the final score at 5-0. Dean was named man of the match after his fantastic hat-trick scored within 10 minutes.

Saturday 8th May v Ruskin (home) at the Barony

After losing the last three matches the boys were ready to put things right against a Ruskin team languishing at the foot of the table and we were soon in the ascendency with Dom netting inside the first minute. Dom added a second shortly after before Dean and then an own goal saw us 4-0 up. Dom completed his hat-trick before the half hour was up and then Connor scored to put us 6-0 up at half time. The pressure on the Ruskin goal continued after half time with birthday-boy Nathan celebrating by firing home his first of the season before the rare sight of a TJ goal made it 8-0. Not to be outdone Tom D added a couple himself before Tom G completed the scoring to make the final score 11-0 and a very satisfactory result. Man of the match was Robbie after another brilliant display.

Friday 30th April v Crewe FC (home) at the Barony

The last day of April saw us at the Barony getting more than our fair share of an ‘April shower’ so it was a cold and miserable start to the match as we faced Crewe FC for the second time in a week and third time this season hoping we could go one better than the previous two matches against them. The match started off at a fast pace with chances at both ends, as the half wore on neither side was able to stamp their authority on the game but then Crewe FC had a throw in deep into our half, the ball made it’s way into the box and wasn’t cleared properly and their player slotted the ball home to take the lead 1-0. Crewe seemed to sit back at this point and we had several good chances, Tom D shooting just wide from distance and then Tom D sent in a fantastic cross which shot across the face of the goal but Matty was just a whisker away from reaching it and knocking it into the goal so the half ended with us trailing 1-0. The second half started with us piling the pressure on Crewe, Robbie sent in a great cross for Dean but his header went just over then Tom G delivered a pin point cross for Tom D but his shot was saved. As the match went on we had several more chances, Crewe were finding it hard to make it over the half way line but, as we committed more players forward to try and find an equaliser, they had a couple of half chances. As the match drew to a close, Dean had a great shot well saved before time ran out and the match ended 1-0 to Crewe. Another closely fought match which, on the balance of play, we probably deserved at least a draw from but it wasn’t to be. Robbie was named man of the match for a great game in the thick of the action. (For photo’s click here )

Sunday 25th April v Crewe FC (away) at Mirrion Street

Another fine spring morning greeted us as we looked to get back to winning ways against Crewe FC. The match started off at a quick pace with both teams having early chances but then Crewe were gifted a great opportunity to take the lead when the ref awarded a very harsh penalty against us. Their player duly slotted home from the spot to leave us losing 1-0. The boys came back strongly and had several chances, Tom G shooting over the bar and Ally coming close before we were awarded a free kick about 30 yards out. Dean took the kick superbly and the ball flew past their goalie into the net to bring the scores level at 1-1. Our defence were doing a good job but soon after the equaliser their player shot, James could only parry the ball and it rebounded to their player who shot home to give them the lead 2-1 which was how it stayed until half time. In the second half we were still enjoying the majority of possession although Crewe were as physical as usual which meant it was hard to play decent football. Dom managed to break through their defence but the goalie saved and then Tom D found himself unmarked in the box but his shot went just wide. Crewe were awarded a corner and their player managed to score to bring the score to 3-1 and out of reach of a comeback leaving the final score as 3-1 which on the balance of play was probably flattering to Crewe. Jordan was awarded man of the match for another fine display in the heart of the defence. (For photo’s click here )

Sunday 18th April v Knights (home) at Ruskin Sports College

Another lovely sunny day as we looked to extend our eight match unbeaten run. The boys were soon on the attack with Dom and Dean both going close but Knights were not just sitting back and James had to make a good save at the feet of their player. Ally, Chris and Tom D all had half chances but Knights continued to threaten in front of goal and TJ, Robbie and Jordan all had to work hard to keep our defence tight so at half time the score was 0-0. The second half got underway and we were on the attack again, Chris having a good shot that went just wide. Soon after Knights attacked and managed to beat our defence, their player slotting home although what seemed to be a clear handball went unnoticed by the referee. The boys tried to pick themselves up, Robbie had a great header from a corner and Chris and Connor both had shots saved by their keeper who was in great form. As the minutes ticked on we sent more and more players up front but we couldn’t find a way through the Knights defence and the goal just wouldn’t come so the final score was 1-0. Robbie was named man of the match for an excellent display in defence. (For photo’s click here )

Saturday 17th April v Stapeley (home) at the Barony

The sun was shining on us as we kicked off at the Barony for the first of two games in two days and we got off to a brilliant start with Dom firing us into the lead after only 3 minutes, Dean added a second midway through the first half and Tom D scored just before the half time break to give us a comfortable lead of 3-0 at half time. We put the match beyond reach of Stapeley within two minutes of the restart with Dom firing home again, Ally put us 5-0 up before Tom D got his second and our sixth shortly after. We were playing some good football and several players came close to increasing our lead before Dom rounded things off by completing his hat-trick to give us a 7-0 win and put us back into 3rd place in the table. Jordan was named man of the match for another great game at the heart of our defence. (No photo’s).

Sunday 11th April v Nantwich Town (home) at Shavington School

Another lovely spring morning for our first game of the season at Shavington School. We were playing down the slope in the first half and took a time to get going before Ally fired us into the lead and then Tom G scored a couple of minutes later to put us 2-0 ahead. After the goal burst of four goals in six minutes in our last game, Tom D tried to single-handedly beat that scoring an amazing hat-trick in just five minutes (though the last goal did come after the half time break). So we went in at half time 4-0 up. We were caught out at the back letting Nantwich pull one back to 4-1 before Tom finished his scoring burst to put us 5-1 up. We had quite a few shots on goal, Chris going close before Dom made the score 6-1 and then Connor netted two more to make the final score 8-1 after another very good team display. Tom D was named man of the match after his superb hat-trick, just pipping Matty who had a great game too. (No photo’s).

Saturday 3rd April v Congleton Hotspur (away) at Back Lane, Congleton

A nice spring morning as we made the long journey over to Congleton for our first ever match at the Back Lane pitches hoping to extend our unbeaten run. After such an early start it’s perhaps unsurprising that the boys made a slow start and we found ourselves a goal down early on but then in an amazing turnaround we scored FOUR goals in just SIX minutes! First Ally pulled the scores level, then TJ scored a great goal (a very rare sight though unfortunately his dad was poorly and missed it!), then Tom D fired home another before Matt completed the turnaround to put us 4-1 up at half time. After the restart, they pulled back two in quick succession to bring the score back to 4-3 then Ally scored his second of the match to put us 5-3 up and give us a bit of breathing space. We needed it as they soon scored again to make the score 5-4 before Dom cracked home a great goal to make the score 6-4 and that was the final score. A great result for the boys, as we are now unbeaten for six games, a record to be proud of and we have now soared to third place in the table, a reflection of the boys hard work and determination. Tom G was named man of the match for another outstanding game in midfield. (No photo’s due to Congleton refusing permission).

Sunday 28th March v Cruventus (home) at Ruskin Sports College

With the game kicking off extra early at 9.30am at the request of our visitors Cruventus and with losing an hour’s sleep due to the start of summertime, it was perhaps no surprise that the boys took a bit of time to get going on a cold and drizzly morning. Cruventus put us under a lot of pressure but our defence held firm until a mix up saw Cruventus take the lead. Our forwards were not managing to find a way through to get any decent shots on target and then Cruventus had the chance to make it 2-0 when they were awarded a penalty but their player blasted the ball over the bar so we went in at half time 1-0 down. However, the boys showed their fighting spirit and came out raring to go in the second half, Ally levelling the score after a few minutes and then Dom put us in the lead 2-1. Cruventus tried their best to get back in the game but we kept things tight and then Ally scored a fantastic goal to put us 3-1 up. Then to top it off Connor scored a great goal in the last minute to give us a superb 4-1 victory and keep our unbeaten run going. Ally was named man of the match after his two fantastic goals. (No photo’s)

Sunday 21st March v Wistaston Cougars (away) at Mirrion Street

Another lovely spring morning and the boys were raring to extend their unbeaten run with a victory against Wistaston. The match got off to a fast start and the boys were soon on the attack. Our pressure soon paid off with Tom D firing us into the lead before Dean popped up with another of his cracking goals to put us 2-0, Connor then managed a lovely header to give us a 3-0 lead at half time. Dom came off the subs bench at half time and soon put us 4-0 up, Ally then made it 5-0. We weren’t having things all our own way but TJ was having a great game in defence keeping things tight although he did manage a few good runs up the field. Tom G then scored a great goal, chipping the ball over their keeper before Dom rounded things off with his second goal of the game to give us the win 7-0. Although it was a great victory, the team didn’t play as well as they can do. Hopefully they’ll be back to their best against Cruventus next weekend. Man of the match was TJ after a very strong game in defence. (No photo’s)

Sunday 14th March v MG Juniors (home) at Ruskin Sports College

A nice Spring morning, although with a strong cold wind blowing, saw us back at Ruskin hoping to carry on our winning run and we did just that with a comprehensive victory over MG Juniors in what was for the most part a very one-sided match. Ally and Matt scored early on to put us 2-0 up before Connor ran the ball through their defence, passed out wide to Tom D who slotted home for a 3-0 lead which is how the score stayed until half time. After half time, Dec was brought on up front and caused the MG defenders all sorts of problems as we sought to increase our lead. Tom G sent a lovely ball across the box to Robbie who hooked in for 4-0 then shortly after Connor was crudely brought down in the box, the ref awarding a penalty which Connor cooly fired home for 5-0. Matt was then brought down in the box too, another penalty was awarded but that sailed over the bar. We continued the pressure on the MG goal, Dec, Ally , Tom G, Connor, Chris and Dean all having chances before Dec managed to rush through on goal and the ball was bundled into the net for 6-0. Just before the final whistle, Dec had the ball in the net again only for it to be ruled out for offside so the final score was 6-0 and a good all round team display. Tom D was named man of the match for an great game in midfield and a superbly taken goal. (For photo’s click here )

Sunday 7th March v Stapeley (away) at Ruskin Sports College

After another enforced lay-off due to the poor weather we were finally back in action on a nice spring morning. We got off to a flying start with Ally having a couple of shots blocked and Tom G scoring, only for it to be ruled offside before Stapeley almost took the lead when their player was clean through but James made a fantastic save. We soon made Stapeley pay as Dean sent a great ball through to Dom, who beat the offside trap and slotted past their keeper for 1-0. Shortly after there was a scramble in the goal mouth with Tom G and Dom having shots blocked before the ball found it’s way out to Tom D who rifled home a fantastic shot from 30 yards to give us a 2-0 lead. We were flying now and Dean, Chris, Tom G and Tom D were setting up a lot of chances for Dom and Ally and making sure we kept possession. We increased our lead after Matt had a great run down the wing and sent a brilliant cross into the box for Dom to head home for a 3-0 lead. Stapeley were then awarded a free kick on the edge of our box and their player beat our wall and James to bring the score to 3-1 which is how it remained until half time. After the break, Stapeley started to come back more into the game but Rhys sent a lovely ball through to split their defence and set up Ally who fired the ball home for 4-1. Tom G and Ally had a couple more chances before Connor battled through their defence and crossed to Dom who knocked the ball into the net for 5-1 and to complete his hat-trick. The final score was 5-1 which reflected our dominance of the game in what was a good team performance. Jordan was named as man of the match for a great game in defence, keeping their forwards at bay. Sunday 14th February v MG Juniors (away) at Ruskin Sports College

After last weeks heavy defeat we were looking to bounce back and get an important win to keep in touch with the teams at the top of the table and we managed to get the result in some style, beating MG Juniors 9-1. We started off at a fast pace that was no match for MG’s defence and Ally made them pay with three quick goals to grab a first half hat-trick, one of the goals did have a hint of a deflection of an MG player but Ally claimed it anyway! So we were 3-0 up and then Dean struck one of his fantastic free kicks into the top corner of the net to give us a 4-0 lead at half time. The second half started off in similar fashion, Tom D breaking free down the wing to flight a brilliant cross over into Dean in the box who smashed the ball home for 5-0. Shortly after Chris went on a mazy run, beating several of the MG players, before making space for himself in the box and firing the ball home for a great goal and 6-0 lead. Ally, Dean, Tom G and Connor all had chances as the MG defence struggled to match our pace before Tom D hit a great shot that rebounded into the net off the post for a 7-0 lead. After more pressure on the MG goal, Dean sent in a lovely corner which Tom G managed to head into the net for 8-0. The rout was completed when their goalie miskicked a goalkick straight to Ally who fired the ball home for his fourth goal and to put us 9-0 up. With just a few minutes to go, we let MG grab a consolation goal after a scramble in the box to give a final score of 9-1. So a convincing victory which will boost morale. Tom D was named man of the match for a fantastic captain’s display in midfield, making a couple of goals and scoring one himself. (For photo’s click here )

Sunday 7th February v Nantwich Town Corinthians (away) at the Barony

With only one match played in almost two months we were always going to be up against it as we faced Corinthians, a very well organised and strong footballing team. We started the match off well but unfortunately soon found ourselves 2-0 down, their second goal only just trickling over the line. Our luck was all out again shortly after when Ally had the ball in the net only for the goal to be disallowed for, what must have been a very close, offside. Perhaps if that goal had counted it may have given us a boost to get back in the match but soon things went from bad to worse as we conceded another goal to leave the score 3-0 at half time. The second half continued in the same vein as the first half with us putting pressure on ourselves by not clearing the ball from defence and losing possession far too easily which resulted in us conceding a further 3 goals for a final score of 6-0. James had another good game in goal, keeping the scoreline respectable and Jordan had a great game doing his best to keep things solid and was named as man of the match.

Sunday 24th January v Alex Soccer Centre (away) at the Soccer Centre

We were finally back in action today after five weeks without a game and a quick reshuffle of the team was necessary with Toby and Jordan both unable to play at the last moment. The match got underway and we soon found ourselves a goal down with the team still finding their feet after such a long layoff. However, James in goal made a couple of good stops before they scored again for 2-0. The defence of TJ, Rhys, Robbie and Nathan had their work cut out to keep the Soccer Centre forwards at bay but they held firm and James was on hand with a few more good saves when necessary though the Soccer Centre scored another goal for 3-0. We then started to apply a bit more pressure and were awarded a free kick wide on the left from which Dean curled a fantastic shot into the top corner giving their goalie no chance and bringing us back into the game at 3-1 and it stayed that way until half time. Soon after the restart they scored again for 4-1 but then after a goalmouth scramble TJ managed to get on the ball and knock it over the line for 4-2, his long awaited first ever goal for Brookfield! The Soccer Centre scored a couple more quick goals to bring the score to 6-2, James was still valiantly keeping shots out and our defence tried to stay firm but they managed to score another to bring the final score up to 7-2. TJ was named man of the match for his great performance in defence and fantastic goal. Hopefully the team will get back to winning ways with next week’s match against Ruskin.

Sunday 13th December v Ruskin (away) at Ruskin Sports College

It was good to return to action on a cold and frosty morning at Ruskin College. We started off quite slowly, perhaps not suprising in the freezing conditions and the pitch was quite slippy too but we soon got a goal and after that the goals flowed fairly easily, we built up a lead of 6-0 by half time. It wasn’t all one way traffic as the scoreline may suggest, Ruskin had a few chances in the first half to keep James warm in goal, they even had the ball in the net but the goal was ruled out for offside. In the second half the goals continued to flow in and we were able to swap the side around to give everyone a good chance of playing. By full time we had built up a fantastic 14-0 lead with eight different names on the score sheet: Ally (with a hat trick), Conner (2), Chris (2), Dom (2), Tom G, Tom D, Dean and two own goals. Conner was named man of the match for his two goals and several other near misses. Next week we face a tougher test when we play Crewe FC again, hopefully we will get revenge for our cup defeat. (Sorry no photo’s).

Sunday 29th November v Crewe FC (League Cup, 1st round) at Mirrion Street

We returned to Mirrion Street, the scene of last season’s victory over Crewe FC, hoping for more of the same. The pitch was in the same condition - very muddy - but unfortunately the result didn’t go the same way in this first round League Cup tie. We started the match playing the same formation as had proved so successful last weekend against Cruventus and the game was end-to-end with both defences being forced to work hard. James pulled off a string of fine saves before Crewe FC took the lead. Dean went close at the other end with a great free kick which went just over the bar. We were looking good going forward and our powerful midfield were causing Crewe FC all sorts of problems but it was Crewe who increased their lead to 2-0 with a very controversial goal from a player who appeared to be offside to everyone but the referee. However, we put this behind us and soon got ourselves back into the game with a well taken goal by Ally, which put him on top of our goalscoring chart for this season. The score stayed at 2-1 until half time. Shortly into the second half we changed formation, bringing Dom on to give us more firepower up front. We were playing some great football and it looked only a matter of time until we pulled the game back to level terms, Tom G coming closed when he took a free kick the just skimmed the cross bar. Unfortunately as we pushed forward for an equaliser, Crewe scored another goal late on, against the run of play, to put the game out of reach at 3-1. So another good team performance and a scoreline that certainly flattered Crewe FC. James was named as man of the match for his great performance in goal. (For a few photo’s click here )

Sunday 22nd November v Cruventus at the Barony

After our enforced mid-season break it was nice to get back to action again although some may have had second thoughts as the rain drenched us as the match got underway at the Barony. We had held an extra training session yesterday to get the team back in the groove for playing and this proved very worthwhile as we were soon called into action by a strong Cruventus side and the heavy rain and strong wind was against us too. Cruventus have been scoring lots of goals in their previous matches but our defence managed to stay firm with James having to make a string of fine saves to keep them out before Tom D hit a low drive into the net after their keeper could only push Ally’s shot out, putting us 1-0 up and we kept it that way until half time. In the second half the rain had stopped and we now had the wind in our favour and we were soon 2-0 up after Ally scored a good goal and then followed it up a few minutes later with another great effort to put us 3-0 up and join Dom as joint top scorer on 8 goals for the season. Tom G, celebrating his birthday, was having a fine game in midfield and capped his great performance with a superbly taken goal which put us 4-0 up and that’s how the match ended. A fantastic result against a strong side and a very good team performance with every player contributing to the result. Tom G was named man of the match for his great performance and goal on his birthday. (For a few photo’s click here )

Sunday 11th October v Congleton Hotspurs at Mirrion Street

This was our first ever match against Congleton and as the match got underway on a damp morning we were soon on the attack, Dean and Robbie both firing in good shots before Ally had a great shot that was parried by the keeper but Ally made no mistake with the rebound to put us 1-0 up. We kept up the pressure, Tom G, Dean and Tom D sending lots of balls through for Ally and Dom as we peppered their goal before Chris came running out of defence to shoot a fantastic goal from distance for 2-0. Ally and Dom both had further chances before Ally had another great shot saved but the ball rebounded to Tom D who made no mistake for 3-0 which is how it stayed until half time. At half time, goalie James could not continue as his injured hand had swollen badly so Dec stepped up as goalie for the second half. The one way traffic on the Congleton goal soon resumed Dom having a couple of good runs before he took the ball through their defence and shot the ball home from the edge of the box for 4-0. Tom G then sent in a fantastic corner, the Congleton defence couldn’t clear the ball and Connor knocked the ball home for 5-0. The rain now started to lash down but we kept up the pressure, from another corner Connor hit the post before Dom smashed home the rebound for 6-0. All the Tom’s were now getting in on the act, Tom D and Tom G both had shots saved whilst Tom J was making some dangerous runs down the left wing, from one run he crossed to Matt who passed to Connor who turned the ball in for 7-0. Congleton then had their first chance of the match but Nathan made a great tackle to clear the danger but then they managed to beat our defence to score for 7-1. We were soon back on the attack and Dean lobbed their keeper from distance for a great goal and 8-1. Connor had a couple more chances to complete his hat-trick but the goal wouldn’t come and the final score was 8-1. This was another good team performance with Chris being named man of the match for his great goal and also the versatility and consistency he showed playing in a number of positions, Tom G was a close second for his impressive display in midfield. (For photo’s click here )

Sunday 4th October v Alsager Panthers at Milton Gardens, Alsager

After last week’s disappointing result the boys were keen to get back to winning ways and with Tom G making his debut the signs were good. We soon had some luck for a change with an own goal putting us 1-0 up before Alsager managed to equalise. Dom then scored to give us back the lead at 2-1, Dom has now scored in the last four consecutive League games a superb record. Alsager then scored again to bring the scores level again before we took the lead after some great work by Tom G put Ally through to score for 3-2 which is how it stayed until half time although Alsager did hit the bar but the ball stayed out. In the second half we managed to get a fourth goal through Connor and our defence stayed firm to keep Alsager out although Chris ended up with a bloody nose to show for his hard work with the final score being a fantastic 4-2 victory. Tom G was voted man of the match for some great work in midfield, with Jordan coming a very close second with a great defensive display. (No photo’s).

Sunday 27th September v Nantwich Corinthians at the Barony

A crisp autumnal morning at the Barony and we had a full squad to select from for the first time this season but unfortunately we couldn’t get going as a team. The first half saw us go 2-0 down before Ally pulled one back as we did quite well to contain Corinthians, the score being 2-1 at half time. However they put the game out of reach in the second half going 4-1 up before James magnificently saved a penalty. Soon after they got a fifth before Dom tapped in a consolation to make the final score 5-2. (No photo’s)

Tuesday 22nd September v Nantwich Town at the Barony

Our first evening fixture of the season and as kick off time of 6.00pm approached we only had 9 players, the rest of our squad having been delayed at a schools match that only finished at 5.40pm. Unfortunately the match kicked off dead on time but luckily two of our missing players managed to run on the pitch as the match started and the others arrived soon after. We were soon on the attack and Tom D went close a couple of times, then Dom went on a good run and shot just over. Our pressure soon paid off though when James sent a goalkick up the pitch, Dom got on the end of it as their keeper came running out of the goal, rounded him and slotted home into an empty net for 1-0. Soon after we were awarded a penalty after a foul on Dean but their goalie made a great save. Our second goal soon followed though when Ally looped the ball over the keeper from a wide angle to make it 2-0. Dean then had a good shot which went wide before Ally managed to beat their defence and fire home to make it 3-0. Chris had a good shot that went just wide and Dean had another shot their goalie saved well as well piled on the pressure. Just before the half time break Tom D hit a post and we went in 3-0 up at half time. Dean and Tom D both had good chances on the restart but Nantwich started to come more into the match, Toby, TJ and Dec all having to make good clearances before a mistake in our defence allowed their player in to shoot past James for 3-1. Nantwich were trying hard for another goal to bring them back into the match but we managed to soak up the pressure and gradually got back on top, Matt having a good run and shot that was saved before Dean took the ball through their defence, his first shot was parried by their keeper back out to him and he made no mistake for 4-1. As the light faded quickly we held out for a final score of 4-1. Dean was named man of the match for another great display in midfield. Thanks were given to all the team for a great team effort after a tiring day as well as parents for rushing to get to the match after work and also several of the boys who have cancelled commitments to put playing for the team first which is much appreciated. Sunday 20th September v Knights at Mirrion Street

A lovely sunny day as the boys put last weekend’s disappointing scoreline behind them in fine style, sailing to a 6-1 win with our very own super striker Dom grabbing another hat-trick (his 3rd in 4 matches which is amazing). Ally, Connor and Chris also got themselves on the scoresheet. In truth the scoreline possibly flattered us, we will play a lot better and probably not win by so many but we worked hard and the defence kept solid apart from a momentary lapse in the dying minutes which gave Knights their solitary goal. Toby had a fantastic game in defence and was named man of the match.

Sunday 13th September v Alex Soccer Centre at the Barony

We knew this was going to be a hard match for our first game as soon as the fixtures were announced and so it proved as we were well beaten. Unfortunately we went 1-0 very early on as their quick forwards caught our defence napping and it was downhill from there. James, in goal, had no chance of stopping the Soccer Centre’s rampant forwards and our defence were struggling to get decent challenges in and we soon found ourselves 4-0 down before we’d had a decent chance. Dom then managed a fine run on goal but their defence got back to clear and then Dean fired a great free kick just over the bar. James carried on with his heroics in goal making several fine saves before the ball found it’s way into the net again to leave us 5-0 down. We were awarded a penalty after their defender handled in the box but the shot went wide of the post and we went in 5-0 down at half time. Worse was to come as minutes after the restart we went 6-0 down and then leaked a further goal for 7-0. James was doing his best to keep the score respectable and made several flying saves and scooped the ball off the line before we were awarded another penalty and this time Dean made no mistake, firing the ball past our old keeper Lewis for 7-1. We soon scored another, but unfortunately in the wrong net, as a defensive header looped over James for 8-1. Dom and Tom D were trying hard to make some chances of our own but the Soccer Centre defence kept us out and then the Soccer Centre scored another goal from a header to make it 9-1 which ended as the final score. Not the best result to start the season but we know we can play a lot better and at least this difficult fixture is now out of the way. James was awarded man of the match for his brave display in goal and numerous fine saves.(For photo’s click here )

Tuesday 8th September v Ruskin (friendly) at Ruskin School

After quite good weather all day the clouds darkened ominously as we arrived for our last friendly before the League action gets underway on Sunday. True to form, the rain started spitting down as the match got underway and reached torrential proportions by midway through the first half, luckily we were comfortably in control of the match by then so the rain didn’t seem to matter quite so much. After a slow start the match sprung into action when James sent a massive goalkick over their defence to Dom who sailed through their defence for 1-0, Dean and Dom both had good chances, Tom D had a header cleared off the line from a corner before Dom had another good shot blocked by the keeper but the ball ran loose to Ally who shot home 2-0. Dom then struck the ball across the face of the goal and in at the far post 3-0. Ruskin were awarded a free kick inside the box after James inadvertently picked up a back pass but he made a great save to keep the ball out. Soon after Dean made it 4-0 with a shot from close range, Ruskin had another good shot from distance that James did well to save and then Dec cleared the ball after Ruskin threatened again. We soon got back to scoring with Tom D and Ally combining well for Ally to fire home 5-0 then just seconds before half time, Dom raced through their defence for a great solo goal to make it 6-0 at half time. The game had only just restarted when Chris made a great run down the wing and shot the ball home 7-0, Ally then found himself in space on the wing before crossing to Dom who finished well 8-0, then Matthew hit a fantastic shot from distance that rebounded out from the inside of the post but luckily fell to Dean who made no mistake 9-0. Chris again found some space down the wing and crossed to Matthew but his shot was saved. Ruskin hit back with a scrambled goal to make it 9-1. Within seconds of the restart though we were back on the scoresheet with Ally and Connor playing a fantastic 1-2 with Connor firing home for 10-1. Matthew had another great shot from distance that bounced over their keeper but unfortunately went just over the bar too, then Chris went on another good run, passed to Dean but their keeper pulled off a good save. Connor then sailed through their defence for 11-1 and shortly after Dean hit the post with a header before Chris had a good shot just over the bar. Apparently Tom D and Dean scored as well but I somehow missed those goals, the boys convincing me the final score was 13-1! Whatever the final score actually was this was a good team performance and will hopefully boost the boys in time for Sunday’s difficult opening match of the League season. At the end of the match the boys celebrated in fine style, diving along the wet and muddy pitch together in a long row to the delight of their watching parents! Dean was named man of the match for another superb display in midfield topped off with some great goals, with Chris a close second place. (Due to weather conditions for a few photo’s click here )

Saturday 5th September v Stapeley FC (friendly) at the Barony

We played this friendly at the Barony but had to use an adult sized pitch as they were the only one’s ready so far but the boys adapted well to the larger pitch, we also benefited from having almost a full squad available with only Declan missing through injury. The match started quite slowly, with both teams looking a little rusty, and there were few chances at either end and neither side were able to get on top, however after a clever ball through from midfield, Ally made a great run and shot only for the keeper to save but the ball rebounded to Dom who knocked in the rebound for 1-0. Shortly after Ally had the ball in the net again but the goal was ruled offside but then Dom scored a second goal, after running through their defence to put us 2-0 up. We were flying now and a few minutes later Dom again scored after a great run up the wing to bring the score to 3-0 which is how it stayed until half time. The second half got underway and we were putting Stapeley under a lot of pressure though on Stapeley’s rare attacks Rhys and Tom J were keeping the defence solid. Tom D had a magnificent run into the box, rounded the keeper but a defender managed to clear the ball and then Chris had a great shot that their keeper saved well. Play switched to the other end and after a scramble the ball found it’s way into our net for 3-1. We soon replied with another goal though, Chris sent in a lovely cross from the wing which Dom tapped into the net, for his fourth goal, and to give us a 4-1 lead which was the final score. Man of the match was Dom, not suprisingly after his four superb goals with Rhys getting a special mention for a sterling display in a variety of positions in defence. Hopefully we’ll be able to carry this good form into our friendly on Tuesday night before the important business of the league starts in earnest. For photo’s click here

Saturday 29th August - Kidsgrove Tournament

We visited Kidsgrove today for their Ladsandads Tournament which had been postponed from earlier in the year. Unfortunately they’d had some teams drop out at the last minute so they decided that each team would play each other twice, we finished top of the resulting league, won the semi final and then triumphed with a superb victory in the final to win our first ever trophy. So a magnificent achievement by all the boys who all contributed towards our victory: Ally, Chris, Dec, James, Jordan, Nathan, Toby, Tom D and Tom J.

Our results were:

v Knights won 1-0 (Chris); v Biddulph drew 0-0; v Mow Cop won 1-0 (Tom D); v Knights lost 1-0; v Biddulph drew 0-0; v Mow Cop won 2-1 (Tom D, Chris); semi-final v Mow Cop won 2-1 (Tom D 2); final v Biddulph won 2-0 (Tom D, Chris).

Friday 14th August v Crewe FC (friendly) at Ruskin School

Our first 11-a-side match of the new season was our annual pre-season friendly against Crewe FC played at Ruskin School. Several players were making their 11-a-side debut for us: James, our new goalie, Declan, Robbie and Jordan; we also had Tyler playing on trial for us. The full side was: James, Lewis, Rhys, Dec, Chris, TJ, Dean, Ally, Tyler, Robbie, Jordan, Tom and Dom. We lost 4-3 but the game was very close and we dominated for long periods. Unfortunately the ref was supplied by Crewe FC who consequently awarded them a very soft penalty which proved to be the difference between the sides. We did tire towards the end but this was no suprise as we’d had three full days of training including all day on Friday. The goals were scored by Robbie and Dean got two, one after some brilliant work by Rhys.
