Many thanks to Leighton who is our roving match reporter again this season.
Sunday 31st May v Silverdale Athletic (away), PJYL, at Jollies Field, Silverdale
An even paced start to the game saw each team get the measure of each other. A free kick near the corner flag was not cleared and Silverdale took advantage to open the scoring (1-0). Shortly afterwards Dean Twigg was fouled in the box and coolly converted his penalty to level the score (1-1). A free kick was then awarded to Brookfield and Dean Twigg curled a super ball around the wall and into the top right corner (1-2). It was Dean Twigg again marauding up the left wing who did well to shoot at a tight angle with the ball finding the net. (1-3). Silverdale continued to work hard and pulled a goal back before half time to leave one goal in it.
                            2nd Half
Rangers started brightly once again and a good move through the centre finished with Tom Dale slotting into the net but it was given off-side. Dean Twigg again went on a great run left of the goal and managed a low cross which Ali Chapman controlled well and with a clinical finish, extended Brookfield’s lead (2-4). Lewis Steele made a very good save from a long range shot to keep the score as is before that man Dean Twigg got on the end of a long ball to chip the keeper to add to Rangers tally (2-5). Brookfield had the ball in the net once again but for the second time it was judged off-side. Another top-notch save from Lewis Steele this time from a close range header was followed by a battling run through the middle of the park by Robbie Prince who kept going all the way to the goal line to make the final score 2-6 to Rangers.
It was good to end the season with a win that elevated Brookfield to 4th in the league table - a very respectable position and one to build on next season. This was the last game for some of the lads as they head off to college and university - we wish them all the best and hope they will make a few guest appearances in the future!
Goals: Dean Twigg (4) Ali Chapman Robbie Prince

Sunday 3rd May v Newcastle Town (away), U21 Sub Cub Semi Final at Newcastle Town FC
Lack of availability and a couple of injuries hampered Rangers team selection for this encounter with only 11 players able to travel to Newcastle. The opposition commanded most of the possession in the early part of the game forcing a fine save from Lewis Steele after 10 minutes. Good defensive work by Alex Alton and Kyle Woolrich kept Newcastle at bay during the first half. Another good save at close range for Lewis Steele kept the score at 0-0
                            2nd Half
Newcastle were awarded a free kick (Brookfield players puzzled as to what for!) and the resultant cross was converted at close range (1-0). Another cross from free play was mis-hit and looped over the Brookfield keeper to find the net (2-0). Ben Minshull who is still recovering from a hamstring injury lasted as long as he could before having to come off reducing Rangers to 10 players. It was time to gamble as Rangers moved to 3 at the back. This created a few chances notably for Tom Dale and Kyle Woolrich but unfortunately none were taken advantage of. Rangers began to run out of steam and with 3 at the back Newcastle caught them on the break twice to make the final score 4-0.
A disappointing result but Rangers showed some grit and determination to keep going under difficult circumstances. Back to the league mid-week with an away fixture against Bradwell.
Man of the Match; Kyle Woolrich & Lewis Steele (Joint)

Sunday 26th April v Norton United (home), PJYL, at Sir William Stanier
Little rain on the lead up to the game made for a very dry and bobbly pitch. A shortage of player plus injuries meant that Norton had to play the majority of the match with 8-9 players. A super turn on the right wing from Jack Morris beat 2 defenders, the low cross was only partially cleared and Alex Alton placed very well into the bottom right corner to open the scoring (1-0). Almost immediately Rangers had a lapse in concentration and Norton were back on level terms (1-1). Pressure through the centre again set up Jack Morris to pass into Chris Martin who restored Brookfield’s lead (2-1). Again Rangers did not hold the lead for long as Norton battled hard. A trip inside the box gave the opposition a penalty which was confidently converted to level the score once again (2-2). Chances fell to both teams with Ali Chapman hitting the post from a free kick. Only a very good save by Lewis Steele kept the score level going into half-time.
                            2nd Half
Several chances fell to both teams, Rangers had most of the possession and hit the post again making hard work of it against a weakened and tiring Norton team. Only some strong defending from Ryan Forrester and Kyle Woolrich kept everything equal. After having a chance saved whilst one- on- one with the Keeper Jack Morris broke from midfield onto a neat pass from Josh Boulton and curled a shot over the keepers head to find the top left corner of the net. This turned out to be the deciding goal with the final score remaining at 3-2.
Scorers: Alex Alton, Chris Martin, Jack Morris
Man of the Match: Ryan Forrester

Sunday 12th April v Florence Youth (away), PJYL, at Florence Sports & Social Club, Lightwood Road, Longton
After an even opening ten minutes, Rangers took the lead through a move starting with Ali Chapman putting Dean Twigg in for a strong run and short pass into the box. Josh Boulton showed strength to hold the ball up and play the ball back to Ali Chapman who finished well (0-1). Brookfield continued the pressure and a good break saw Ali Chapman hit the post. Brookfield were also awarded a free kick outside of the box – Dean Twigg executed a super shot which floated into the top left hand corner of the net to extend Rangers lead (0-2). Brookfield then lost their way a little and Florence piled on the pressure and a cross from the right set up a shot which was blocked but the follow-up found the net. (1-2).
                            2nd Half
Rangers were still slightly off the boil and only some excellent defensive work from Kyle Woolrich stopped Florence from drawing level. Lewis Steele also pulled off a good save but then the opposition were awarded a penalty for an alleged hand-ball in the box and duly converted to level the score at 2-2. Chances fell to both teams including a free-kick from which Dean Twigg hit the post. An excellent long ball down the right wing from Jack Morris set Josh Boulton up for a strong run and a slot in from a tight angle to restore Brookfield’s lead (2-3). In last 10 minutes, Rangers re-gained control of the game – Ali Chapman broke on the right wing and crossed the ball which was partially cleared but Robbie Prince placed well to extend the lead (2-4). Tom Dale who had dropped back to play left back then went on a stunning run slicing open the defence and placing into the net to make the final score 2-5
Scorers: Dean Twigg, Ali Chapman, Robbie Prince, Josh Boulton, Tom Dale
Man of the Match: Tom Dale

Sunday 29th March v Newcastle Town (away), PJYL, at Newcastle College, Newcastle
With torrential rain the match had to be switched to 3G – the opening 10 minutes was cagey with both teams weighing each other up.  Rangers took the lead through a neat passing move in midfield which allowed Dean Twigg time to shoot. A thunderous shot was too powerful for the keeper to stop (0-1). A mix up in the Brookfield midfield allowed a Newcastle break which left a player clean through to equal the score (1-1)
                            2nd Half
Again the second half started with both team evenly matched and chances falling to both. An attack on the right involving Rich Blakeman, Robbie Prince and Jack Morris put Dean Twigg through close to the corner, a tackle went in and the ball fell to Josh Boulton who accurately slotted in to restore Ranger’s lead (1-2).
A couple of very good saves in wet conditions from Lewis Steele maintained Brookfield’s lead. Late in the half Jack Morris linked up well with Josh Boulton who hit a 25 yard shot sweetly to again beat the keeper - an excellent goal to top-off a very good performance from Rangers. Final score 1-3
Scorers: Josh Boulton (2) Dean Twigg
Man of the Match: Not awarded

Sunday 22nd March v Nantwich Town (away), Crewe & District FA Cup semi-final at Nantwich Town FC
This was always going to be a tough game against a strong Nantwich Town team. After a fairly even opening 10 minutes Nantwich got the break with a low cross steered into the net (1-0).  Luke Wilson made an excellent save to keep the score the same. Nantwich added another just before half time – a good initial tackle left the ball to fall to a Nantwich player who slotted home (2-0)
                            2nd Half
Brookfield came under pressure again early in the second half with the opposition putting together a good move and finishing well (3-0). Rangers then responded putting together an excellent attacking move culminating in Ali Chapman setting up Dean Twigg to finish (3-1). Brookfield then started to tire and were caught on the break  with a possible off-side not flagged (4-1). More pressure allowed Nantwich to add another 2 in short succession and may have added more if it weren’t for some super saves by Luke Wilson. Nantwich added another goal late in the game to make the final score 7-1.
                            Scorers: Dean Twigg

Sunday 15th March v Florence Youth (away), PJYL, at Sir William Stanier
The pitch was again challenging with areas of heavily sodden turf but after an even opening 10 minutes, Rangers took the lead through a neat passing move in midfield which allowed Dean Twigg to feed Ali Chapman who slotted the ball into the bottom right corner (1-0). Brookfield extended their lead with a good move on the left which resulted in the ball being knocked back to Dean Twigg who found the bottom left hand corner (2-0). Towards the end of the half Rangers were awarded a free-kick around 25 yards out. Dean Twigg hit a sweet curling shot which nestled into the top left corner of the net (3-0)
                            2nd Half
Brookfield’s defence continued with some solid tackling with Ryan Forrester playing his first game at centre-back and putting in a sterling performance. Ali Chapman tried his luck with a long range shot. The ball bobbled in front of the keeper causing a spill and the ball hit the back of the net (4-0). The next goal was a contender for Brookfield’s goal of the season. A low struck corner from Ali Chapman skimmed the grass to the edge of the box, Dean Twigg dummied and Robbie Prince struck a neat first time shot which curled inside the right hand post (5-0). Seconds later Tom Dale picked up the ball near the Florence box and played Dean Twigg in for him to score his hat-trick. Florence were awarded a penalty late in the game following a challenge in the box to make the final score 6-1. A very good performance all round from Rangers.

Sunday 1st March v Leek Town (home), PJYL, at Sir William Stanier
The pitch was very soft and soon cut-up. This did not suit Brookfield’s style of play making it difficult to play a wide game on the floor. However after a slow start Rangers built a good attack on the right through Chris Martin putting Dean Twigg in on goal to finish well at a tight angle (1-0). Leek were quick to equalise from a long range shot which was saved well by Luke Wilson but the follow up shot found the net (1-1). A controversial decision by the referee gave a free-kick to Leek just outside the box which caught the wind and curled in over Luke Wilson (1-2). Leek got into their stride and a long ball from midfield put them in on goal with a neat finish extending their lead (1-3). Rangers went further behind from a corner that was not cleared (1-4). Brookfield pulled one back just before half time with Chris Martin crossing brilliantly for Tom Dale to finish well (2-4). Late on in the half another controversial decision by the referee awarded a penalty to Leek which they duly converted (2-5).
                            2nd Half
Decisions did not go Ranger’s way in the early part of the second half with off-side not given allowing Leek to extend their lead (2-6). Dean Twigg set up Ryan Forrester on a battling run beating several defenders to slot in (3-6). The referee awarded Leek yet another penalty to extend their lead to 3-7. Dean Twigg finished off the scoring with a well-controlled run and finish to what was a very frustrating game for Brookfield - Final Score: 7-4
Scorers: Dean Twigg (2) Tom Dale, Ryan Forrester
Man of the Match: Nathan Hughes

Sunday 18th January v Betley FC (home), PJYL, at Sir William Stanier
Brookfield looked up for it from the kick off and an early corner was swung in perfectly for Lewis Jones to put a powerful header into the net (1-0). A second attack resulted in a neat through-ball to Dean Twigg who finished clinically to extend Ranger’s lead (2-0). Lewis Jones played a ball out to Chris Martin who beat the full back and put a low cross into the box for Dean Twigg to put away his second goal of the game (3-0). Tom Dale picked up the ball in the oppositions half and fed Robbie Prince who found space to drive a low shot which found the bottom right corner of the net (4-0)
                            2nd Half
After an even 15 minutes, Brookfield again got the break-through with Chris Martin intercepting a back pass to take the ball around the keeper to make the score 5-0. Betley were much more competitive second half and a head from a corner found the top right corner despite Lewis Steele getting a hand to it (5-1). Another pass back from Betley put the keeper in trouble and Dean Twigg won the ball finishing with a lob into the net to seal his hat-trick (6-1). Another decisive Rangers attack on the left wing saw Chris Martin put another low cross into the box which Ali Chapman was able to get onto and slot home (7-1). Betley then had a positive 10 minute spell forcing a save from Lewis Steele from a shot going low left. Another Betley attack ended in a long range shot that needed a touch to send it over the bar from the Rangers keeper. The final action of the match came from another Betley attack – this time Brookfield caught them on the break with Luke Wilson playing Ali Chapman in on goal. The Betley keeper missed the challenge and Ali Chapman took full advantage to make the final score 8-1.

Sunday 11th January v Vodafone Youth (home), PJYL, at Sir William Stanier
An even, competitive start to the match saw chances for both team early on. Rangers won a free kick – Robbie Prince’s original cross was partially cleared with Tom Dale putting in a thunderous shot which was stopped by the keeper. A free kick at the other end forced an excellent save from Lewis Steele. The opposition then found a through-ball that left them clean in on goal and the ball was slotted in to open the scoring (0-1). More pressure followed from Vodafone with Rich Blakeman having to clear off the goal line. Brookfield then put a super move together with Robbie Prince feeding Tom Dale who in turn threaded a pass through to Ali Chapman who turned neatly and fired into the bottom right corner to even the score at 1-1.
                            2nd Half
Brookfield came out a little too relaxed and another opposition attack led to a toe-poke shot which found the net (1-2). Lewis Steele clashed with a Vodafone player and was judged to have retaliated to a strong tackle. Rangers was unfortunately shown a red card - a penalty was also awarded which seems very harsh. The opposition scored the penalty taking the score to 1-3. Brookfield pressed ahead with 10 men and a substitute keeper and got their reward with Lewis Jones supplying Dean Twigg who dribbled around the keeper to make the final score 2-3
It was a very competitive game which could have gone either way in terms of result. Rangers were unlucky to not get anything out of the game.
                            Scorers: Ali Chapman Dean Twigg

Sunday 30th November v Newcastle Town (home), PJYL, at Sir William Stanier
It was clear early on that Newcastle Town were a strong team as an early chance fell to them which was hit just wide of the post. Almost immediately afterwards a Brookfield attack resulted in a ball into Dean Twigg who controlled and turned neatly to place a floated shot into the top right hand corner of the net to give Rangers the lead (1-0). Newcastle pressed hard and one of their attacking moves was not closed down properly leaving an easy goal to level the score (1-1). Brookfield defended well with an excellent save from Lewis Steele keeping the score even. A Newcastle player was judged to have been fouled in the box and a penalty was awarded that the away team put confidently away (1-2). A well-placed through-ball saw the Newcastle striker in on goal and they extended their lead (1-3)
                            2nd Half
Brookfield came out fighting and pressured attacks resulted in free-kicks for both Robbie Prince & Dean Twigg but both were fractionally over the bar. The break-through came with Rangers being awarded a penalty for an incident in the box. Robbie Prince stepped up and although the keeper went the right way and got a hand to it, the power of the shot took the ball into the net (2-3). Brookfield pressed for an equaliser with Dean Twigg hitting the post from another free-kick and Lewis Steele making a fine save at the other end.
The final whistle went with Rangers putting in a good performance but the result did not quite go their way

Sunday 9th November v FC Wolstanton (away), PJYL, at The Whammy, Wolstanton
An even start to this match saw early chances for both sides, then, Brookfield began to take control bossing midfield Nat Hughes and Jack Morris combined well on the right to set up Scott Bentley who found space and fired an excellent shot at a tight angle to open the scoring (0-1). Jack Morris and Scott Bentley combined well to set up Dean Twigg for a neat finish to extend Ranger’s lead (0-2). Jack Morris suffered a hamstring injury and was substituted. Brookfield continued their onslaught with Tom Dale crossing in for Scott Bentley to volley in - one of the goals of the season (0-3). Tom Dale again was instrumental in the next goal playing in Dean Twigg to get his second goal of the game (0-4).
                            2nd Half
Brookfield started where they had left off with Ali Chapman hitting a thunderous shot which shook the under-side of the cross-bar but didn’t quite cross the goal line. Rangers were caught on the break but Lewis Steele saved well from short range. Wolstanton were awarded a free-kick outside of the box, the Ranger’s wall was not quite in the right position and the ball found the right side of goal (1-4).
Brookfield won a corner and Robbie Prince put the ball neatly into Lewis Jones who found the net with a powerful header (1-5). New signing Luke Wilson picked up the ball just outside the box and chipped the ball into Dean Twigg who made no mistake to complete his hat-trick (1-6). Late in the game, Ali Chapman put a low cross into Scott Bentley who fired home for his hat-trick to make the final score 7-1 to Rangers

Sunday 2nd November v Eastwood Hanley (home), PJYL, at Sir William Stanier
Brookfield started well pressing and creating chances. A Kyle Woolrich free-kick was well placed with Dean Twigg heading just wide of goal. Lewis Jones found the net from a cross but was deemed off-side by the referee. The break-through came from a very-well weighted pass from Nat Hughes which allowed Dean Twigg to slot into the net (1-0). Lewis Steele pulled off two excellent saves from Eastwood breaks to keep Ranger’s lead intact. Lewis Jones hit the bar from a corner. Again from a another corner, Dean Twigg headed towards goal which was partially saved and Lewis Jones followed up smashing the ball hard and low into the net (2-0).
                            2nd Half
Brookfield kept creating chances after the break and should have extended their lead. A pass through from Nat Hughes to Jack Morris set up a shot forcing a save from the keeper. Another Rangers attack on the left, set up Scott Bentley who fired just over the bar. A late break from Eastwood caught Rangers off-guard and a well-placed shot found the top right corner of the net. Final score 2-1
                            Scorers: Dean Twigg  Lewis Jones

Sunday 19th October v Leek Town (away), PJYL, at Westwood College, Leek
The game started very evenly with Leek preferring the long ball and Rangers putting passing moves together through midfield. Dean Twigg made an immediate impact coming on with 15 minutes to go in the half. From a throw-in he linked up well with Robbie Prince who set Twigg up for a long range floating shot that found the top right hand corner of the net (0-1).
                            2nd Half
Again the play was evenly matched with both sides creating chances. Brookfield lacked concentration at one point and a shot from outside the box found the bottom left corner to even up the score (1-1). Ryan Forrester picked up the ball in midfield and passed through to Dean Twigg who surged forward and placed a well guided shot into the bottom right corner (2-1). The referee then gave a contentious free kick around 30 yards out and Leek duly converted under the bar to even the score once again. (2-2) Lewis Steele fell awkwardly onto his shoulder trying to make the save and had to be substituted – Tom Dale took the keepers jersey. During the last minutes Leek manufactured a break and a well-taken shot sealed the 3 points (3-2)
Brookfield deserved at least something out of the match. They need to close teams down quicker and show more determination to win in tight games.

Sunday 5th October v Bradwell (home) PJYL at Sir William Stanier
Brookfield’s first home game of the season saw the opposition put early pressure on the Rangers defence. Ten minutes into the game Brookfield found their range and touch and started to put some good moves together. Bradwell hit a long floating shot which had to be tipped onto the cross-bar by Lewis Steele but the follow up was put into the net (0-1). Rangers continued to improve and some good build up play from midfield set Scott Bentley up to feed a well-timed pass into Ali Chapman who hit the left hand corner of the net to level the score (1-1)
                            2nd Half
Rangers started brightly again and an excellent pass from Tom Dale into Rich Blakeman forced a good quality save from the opposition keeper. After further pressure from Brookfield, Bradwell began to run out of steam a little and a deliberate hand-ball in the box resulted in a penalty being awarded to Brookfield. Captain Robbie Prince calmly stepped up and placed the shot to keeper’s left to put Rangers in front (2-1).
A reckless challenge on Jack Morris earned a Bradwell player a red card and with the opposition’s frustrations running over a second player received a straight red to reduce them to 9 men.
A quickly taken corner from Rangers was half cleared out to the edge of the box where Tom Dale was very well positioned to strike a very neat shot which the keeper could not hold to extend Ranger’s lead (3-1). Brookfield continued to control the game with Robbie Prince and Tom Dale linking up effectively with some super short passing play setting up Ali Chapman for his second goal of the game. (4-1). Tom Dale and Ali Chapman combined well to put Scott Bentley through in the box controlling and turning neatly to set Rich Blakeman up to slot home making the final score 5-1
This was a strong performance by Brookfield putting points on the board in the league after a disappointing result the previous week.

Sunday 21st September v Sandbach United Falcons (away, Crewe & District FA Cup, 1st round) at Sandbach United FC
Brookfield started very strongly with good passing play creating early chances. Jack Morris came close to opening the scoring with a weaving run into the box. The breakthrough came early with an excellent one-two move – Ali Chapman with the final pass into Robbie Prince who drilled home the shot into the bottom left corner (0-1). A decisive run from Ali Chapman ended in a low cross to feet for Tom Dale to slot in (0-2).
A good move this time on the left resulted in the ball being played into Ali Chapman - some quick foot-work caught the defence out and Brookfield were awarded a penalty. Robbie Prince fired in to make the score 0-3. More good play on the left involving Alex Alton, Robbie Prince put Ali Chapman through on goal and a strong deflected shot again found the net (0-4). Jack Morris played an accurate ball into Tom Dale who controlled the ball well and set up Robbie Prince to drive home for his hat-trick (0-5). Ali Chapman found good positioning and crossed well into Nat Hughes who hit a super volley that was just kept out by the keeper, but then headed in on the follow-up by Ryan Forrester. Sandbach then broke with the ball and only a fine save at close range kept Ranger’s clean sheet intact. Brookfield quickly got back to business and Ali Chapman used pace to take the ball through on goal and slot home for his second goal of the game (0-7).
                            2nd Half
The second half saw a change in formation moving to three at the back and Kyle Woolrich moving into midfield. Tom Dale and Ali Chapman again worked well together with a low cross put into Kyle Woolrich who put the ball in the net at the far post (0-8). Rangers relaxed a little with such a strong lead in the game and passed the ball about. Tom Dale put a nice ball into Ali Chapman who finished well to secure his hat-trick (0-9).
A chip into the box from Ali Chapman found Tom Dale with space and a classy lifted ball found the top of the net (0-10). Rangers moved 4-5-1 for the final ten minutes of the game. Kyle Woolrich found Jack Morris in space high up the pitch with Jack setting up Ryan Forrester to place the ball into the top left corner to make the final score 0-11.
Brookfield put in a confident and commanding performance that will hopefully be taken into the next game as they return to league action.

Sunday 14th September v Vodafone FC (away), PJYL, at Leek Road, Milton
This was always going to be a tough challenge for Brookfield with Vodafone winning the U18 league last season. Rangers started well absorbing early pressure from the home team. Brookfield created a neat chance on the left side involving Tom Dale, with the ball being cross into the box where Ali Chapman fired just over the bar. Brookfield continued to soak up strong pressure from the opposition with Lewis Steele making an excellent short range save.
                            2nd Half
Vodafone continued to press and only a strong save from Lewis Steele early on in the half kept the score level. The opposition then won a corner and the ball was guided in well on the volley to put Rangers 1-0 down.
Shortly after, a strong moved from the centre of the park put Scott Bentley through and he was brought down in the box with the referee pointing straight to the spot. Robbie Prince stepped up and with the initial shot saved; Robbie blasted the ball into the net on the rebound (1-1). Vodafone turned up the heat further –desperate to re-gain their advantage. Once again Lewis Steele made some excellent stops, but unfortunately twisted his knee during one challenge and had to be replaced. Tom Dale stepped in as sub keeper. Brookfield continued to create chances of their own with Richard Blakeman volleying just wide of the right post and a strong shot from Robbie Prince forcing a good save from the keeper. Late in the game Vodafone were awarded a free-kick just outside the goal area and a high cross was nodded in to make the score 2-1.
The game was very even in the second half and Rangers put in a strong performance against tough opposition – probably deserving at least some points from the fixture.

Sunday 7th September v Eccleshall Youth (away), Sentinel Cup Preliminary Round, at Eccleshall
A new season with new coaching staff started with an away cup fixture against Eccleshall FC U18. The teams seemed evenly matched in the opening exchanges but Eccleshall seemed to settle quicker and it was only a solid tackle from Robbie Prince that denied the home team a clear shooting chance. Further pressure produced the first goal with a looping shot going into the top right hand corner to put the hosts 1-0 up. Eccleshall further increased their lead with a cross in from the left which was guided into the top right hand corner of the goal (2-0). Another attack was not quite dealt with and a lobbed shot from the edge of the box again found the net (3-0)
                            2nd Half
Brookfield started brighter in the 2nd half and created more chances. A break from the left saw Tom Jones cross from left with Robbie Prince just unable to keep the shot low. Several excellent saves from Lewis Steele kept the score-line the same in the meantime. Tom Dale went on a good run and managed a shot which was saved by the keeper’s finger-tips. Defensively Ryan Forrester headed off the goal line to prevent Eccleshall extending their lead. Rangers had several more chances but could not find the net. A final save from Lewis Steele resulted in the ball being parried out but the follow up shot found the net making the final score 4-0
Not the result Brookfield wanted but some elements of good play observed particularly in the 2nd Half
